Student Members

Student membership of the New Zealand Coastal Society is FREE! All you have to do is fill out the membership form, and confirm your student status by providing a scanned copy of your student ID or ask your coastal lecturer, supervisor or teacher to email the society to confirm your student status.
There are multiple benefits of becoming a NZCS student member, including:

  • electronic subscription to, and the chance to write articles in, the Society's professional publication Coastal News,
  • subscription to the NZCS email digest, which regularly details coastal talks and other workshops, courses and conferences, job opportunities, resources etc,
  • reduced registration fees for the annual conference,
  • participation in student events at annual NZCS conferences,
  • eligibility to apply for the NZCS research scholarships and travel awards
  • the opportunity to attend, network and get your face known to potential employers at NZCS regional and national events,
  • and much more!

Student Research Scholarships

The society offers two scholarships annually to students conducting research that has the potential to contribute towards the aims of the society: NZ$5000 to support PHD research, and NZ$2500 to support Masters research. Applications close 5pm on 1st May each year and announcement of the successful recipient within a month of the closing date. The recipients will also be invited to the annual conference dinner – they will receive a free conference registration and dinner ticket to be present at this occasion.
