Celebrating 50 years of Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori!

Kupu Takutai 2025

It’s Māori Language Week!

Te Hunga Takutai o Aotearoa (New Zealand Coastal Society) are proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week), and have produced poster rima (5) - to encourage the use of te reo Māori in coastal mahi (work) and everyday life.

Celebrate with us, download, print, and pop it on your wall, and share the Kupu Takutai poster far and wide! Offer it to your children's teachers for classroom walls, or anywhere that may suit.

We acknowledge there may be additional alternative te reo Māori translations for some of the coastal terms used in this poster and many kupu have a deeper meaning. For example tātahi is beach from the inland perspective looking out to sea. Some alternative kupu for beach are tuaone, one, tahamoana (seaside) and uta (beach from the sea perspective heading to the shore).

Kia kaha te reo Māori!
