Bio: Stephen is now retired but he has 40 years experience as a port and coastal engineer.

Stephen has worked on port projects at Ports of Auckland, Northport, Port of Timaru; Port of Lyttelton; and Kings Wharf in Suva, Fiji. He has been involved in the design of marinas, for example at Westhaven, Pine Harbour, Gulf Harbour, Bayswater, Whitianga and Great Mercury Island. He was responsible for the design of both the 2000 and 2018 infrastructure for the Americas Cup at Freemans Bay, Auckland.

He also worked on beach replenishment projects at Westshore and Clifton Beach in Hawkes Bay, Sulphur Point in Tauranga, and Mission Bay, Kohimarama and St. Heliers Beaches in Auckland's eastern suburbs.

His main interests are in (understanding) wave dynamics and forces, effective breakwaters, and sediment movement.
