Principal Scientist - Water Quality
NIWA
Bio: Rob is a Principal Scientist in water quality based at NIWA’s Hamilton campus. He has more than 40 years’ experience in research and consulting on diffuse water pollution and related fields (riparian ecology and management, state-of-environment monitoring and reporting). A long-term interest is optical water quality and the behaviour of light in waters as it affects aquatic plant growth, and visual range of aquatic animals. Rob has particular interests in fine sediment as a multi-stressor (interacting with other contaminants), and microbial water quality as it affects bathing beaches and bivalve shellfish. Rob has worked mainly on freshwater quality in response to diffuse pollution, but his interests extend further downstream to estuarine and coastal waters and effects of contaminated river plumes.
