Bio: As an ecologist and marine conservationist, I am dedicated to fostering sustainable relationships between people and te taiao (the natural world). My approach to conservation is rooted in weaving diverse knowledge systems—scientific, indigenous, and local—believing that true environmental stewardship emerges from the synergy of these perspectives. With extensive experience in marine monitoring, conservation, and environmental protection, I have worked across a range of organisations, including Crown Research Institutes, local government agencies, and community-led initiatives. Currently, as a postgraduate student, my research focuses on the potential for collaborative citizen science between mana whenua and local communities, exploring how this partnership can contribute to more inclusive, just, and culturally meaningful conservation practices in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
